I am about to create another amethyst sculpture. This time it is with amethyst flowers.

A few days ago I finished my Encased Stallion sculpture. When creating this work I had thought to place the bronze stallion in front of the amethyst geode and have bronze cast flowers inside the geode, but this didn’t work. The cherry base was too small.

Instead, I have another geode that is ideally suited to a flower display. This time I will take my amethyst flowers and set them inside this geode.

When I cut the geode to make it flat a small portion of the bottom was removed. This is an ideal place from which my amethyst flowers can grow.

I have added white bronze leaves to the flower stems and plated them in copper. When I ran them through the tumbler with steel shot they turned out all sparkly. These flowers are created with one inch amethyst balls set on sterling silver round petal bases.

These sterling sliver bases were covered with 24kt gold using the Keum-boo technique for attaching gold to silver. Unfortunately, in working with the flowers I managed to physically wear the gold off, and so somewhat ruined the petals.

It is my plan to redo this. I can use this as a learning experience.

I set the flowers in the geode to approximately stage the piece. It should be just fine when finished and set on a round walnut base.
