Description
The faerie was cast in a natural bronze made from copper and tin.
The twig and leaves and berries were cast in a silicon bronze. The leaves have been coloured slightly green with a heat cured decorative enamel that is virtually equivalent to a hard-fired enamel. The fruit has a slight red enamel colour applied. There is a small snail on one of the leaves. The snail has been cast in a white bronze.
The fairy’s wings were also cast in a silicon bronze. Her hair is a white bronze and her shoes and collar were also cast in a white bronze. A small rose was cast in white bronze as a decoration in her hair.
The twig is attached to a bronze branch cast from organic wood. This was given a liver of sulphur patina.
The work is mounted on a custom fabricated honey onyx base that supports an amethyst geode. The amethyst adds a unique perspective to the piece.
The whole sculpture weighs slightly less than 6 kilograms.
The white bronze includes 58% copper, 1% lead and various amounts of manganese, zinc and aluminum. The silicon bronze contains 95% Cu, 4% Si, 1% Mn. The natural bronze contains only copper and tin.
