Description
This work is titled “On Wings of Song”.
This work shows a bronze cast figurine custom made from solid bronze. The music stand is a partial replica of one passed down through my great uncle and grandfather that I used during my music lessons while studying the violin. And yes, I played Mendelssohn’s On Wings of Song as a child.
This figure is cast in a natural bronze made from copper and tin. The body, legs, hands and head are cast separately and soldered together. Her hair and violin are cast in a yellow brass. Her skirt and bow are cast from a white bronze alloy that looks like silver.
The music stand was custom made and cast in a silicon bronze. The frame was cut from sheet brass and soldered to a custom bronze box frame.
This work is completely made by hand. The figurine and all accessories are pinned and mounted on a natural marble base.
The white bronze includes 58% copper, 1% lead and various amounts of manganese, zinc and aluminum. The silicon bronze contains 95% Cu, 4% Si, 1% Mn. The yellow brass has 63% copper, 1% lead, and various amounts of zinc and tin. The natural bronze contains only copper and tin.
