Description
This casting of two sparrows on a twig was a single cast of 860 grams of silicon bronze.
The amethyst is a unique part of a geode sourced from Sidi Rahal, Morocco. This amethyst shows a delightful soft purple colour.
The vast majority of agate from Sidi Rahal exhibits two rim layers: pink-orange (outer) and red-brown (inner). This amethyst shows the characteristic red layer band around the edge. The red coloration can be attributed to inclusions of hematite (oxidized iron).
The two birds were each given a ferric nitrate patina for a rich brown colour. The twig has a liver of sulphur (potassium sulphide) patina for a dark colour.
The sculpture is mounted on a walnut base with a tung oil finish.
