Description
The Iron Faerie
This work is a 1:8 scale bronze cast faerie sitting on a piece of iron ore.
This faerie is mounted on a piece of Limonite from Morrocco. Limonite is iron ore, so this seems fitting for the Iron Faerie.
Her wings are cast in white bronze. I raised the copper to the surface of her inner wings so as to better distinguish them from the outer wings. Copper givers a red colour to the metal, whereas the white bronze looks like silver.
As she is the Iron Faerie, I have also given her a sword and scabbard. She’s armed, and not necessarily your typical tooth fairy, even though she has a red Swarovski crystal in her hair. You have been warned not to trifle with her!
There is a little bronze snail crawling on the rock, just to add some spice to the work.
The faerie contains 665 grams of bronze. The limonite is quite heavy.
The work is cast in natural bronze, white bronze, and yellow brass.
The complete work is mounted on a custom fabricated piece of dark marble.
The white bronze includes 58% copper, 1% lead and various amounts of manganese, zinc and aluminum. The natural bronze contains only copper and tin. The yellow brass has 63% copper, 1% lead, and various amounts of zinc and tin.
